£5.4m to be spent mending potholes and pavements
Some roads to be resurfaced or reconstructed
Some £5.4m is to be spent repairing potholes in roads and pavements in Trafford during the rest of this year.
Included in this is £2.45m for resurfacing, reconstruction and ‘surface dressing’ treatments and Trafford council is also investing in footway repairs.
Roads on this year’s list include Clay Lane, which will undergo resurfacing from Wellfield Lane to Hale Country Club, and Sinderland Lane, with improvements from Birch Road to Woodcote Road in the south of the borough.
Ashfield Road in the heart of the Sale Central ward will see significant resurfacing from Tatton Road to Claremont Road.
The One Trafford Partnership, the collaboration between Trafford council and contractor Amey, says it is also starting a programme of protective surfacing dressing works from June.
Surface dressing is a quick and cost-effective way to maintain roads. It works by spraying bitumen onto the surface and covering it with small stones, which are then pressed down.
This creates a fresh layer that protects the road, prevents water damage, and improves grip for vehicles.
This helps roads last longer, makes driving safer, and keeps traffic moving.
Last year, the highway programme saw the repair and improvement of more than 59 schemes, including Westinghouse Road, Buxton Crescent and Pickmere Close. The programme covered a total of 72,493.24 square metres of road repairs - equivalent of 10 Manchester United football pitches.
Coun Stephen Adshead, Trafford’s executive member for highways, environmental and traded services, said: “We're investing in roads and better infrastructure to make our community safer and more connected, positively impacting everyone's daily lives.
“Any residents or businesses affected by upcoming roadworks will be contacted directly by the highways team. Any diversions or temporary traffic lights will be signposted ahead of the scheduled start date, so everyone can plan their journeys.”
