Stockport Road in Longsight was plunged into chaos this Friday afternoon after a double stabbing on the main road left two teenagers in hospital. The teens, aged 17 and 18, were rushed to hospital with "serious injuries" while police cordoned off the area.

As forensics officers donned protective gear to examine the blood-spattered scene rush hour traffic began to bear down on the cordon. Queues of cars stretched back down the main road, horns blaring as tempers began to fray in the Friday afternoon sun.

‌

The cordon extended over a wide section of Stockport Road, with a car and pushbike both recovered from the scene by police after being examined. Blood could be seen on the window and in the interior of the car, as well as on several cloth items that officers recovered.

Detectives arrived at the scene, joining their forensics colleagues and opening an investigation.

Throughout the afternoon of April 25 officers at the tape were turning away children coming home from school.

‌

In addition to the traffic chaos the main road closure also saw buses redirected, with images from earlier in the day showing a queue of number 192 buses backed up down the street.

After several hours the bike was loaded into a police van and taken away. A forensics officer wearing their full suit got into the car and drove it from the scene.

‌

Cones and tape were removed and traffic once again flooded down the road.

On a cycle lane where the car and bike had been, large spatters of blood dried in the sunshine were still visible on the pavement even after police had finished their work.

An investigation has now been opened into the incident, and Greater Manchester Police are appealing for any information.

‌

Detective Inspector Geoff Machent, from GMP's north Manchester division, said: "We know that news of an incident of this nature will be concerning, especially owing to the ages of those involved.

"Extensive work is ongoing to identify and locate suspects, and we are working with a range of specialist partners to ensure the victims are safeguarded.

"Additional patrols have been deployed to the area whilst we conduct further enquiries, and I would encourage anyone who has any information or concerns, to speak to our officers."

In a statement, GMP said: "At 12.30pm on Friday, we were called to reports that two males had been stabbed on Stockport Road, Manchester.

"Emergency services attended and two males, aged 17 and 18, were taken to hospital with serious injuries. No arrests have been made at this stage and extensive enquiries are underway to establish the circumstances."
