A coffee shop empire started by two Lancashire brothers is set to open a brand new store in the heart of Manchester very soon.

The Coffee House was founded in 2011 by brothers Chris and Stephen Shelmerdine who opened their first coffee shop in Lymm. 14 years later, the business boasts 32 locations across the North and no plans on slowing down.

‌

Specialising in creating community hubs within forgotten high streets, the business roasts its own coffee in Warrington and has now taken over units in the likes of Macclesfield, Sale, Bolton, Bury and Stockport.

All of its food, including the likes of croissants, toasties, paninis, salads and deli rolls, are made fresh daily in a central kitchen before being delivered straight to stores ready for people to order and enjoy.

Chris and Stephen said their business began with the intention of being 'recognised as the leading coffee operator in England’ whilst remaining wholly independent. Their most recent store opened in Wrexham's Island Green Retail Park earlier this month.

Now, the brothers have announced that The Coffee House’s 33rd location will now be in City Tower in Manchester city centre within Piccadilly Gardens. The coffee shop, which will open in May, will be based on the ground floor of the 30-storey office skyscraper.

Alongside serving their own roasted coffee and fresh menu, the café will boast a unique mural, which has been designed in-house and will highlight some of the best things about the city.

“We’re incredibly excited to be opening in the heart of Manchester,” Chris Shelmerdine, co-founder and Managing Director of The Coffee House, said.

‌

“We’ve spent years growing within local communities, and bringing that same warmth and quality to City Tower feels like a huge moment for us. We want this store to be a place where people can take a break from the hustle and bustle, enjoy amazing coffee, and feel at home.”

An opening date has not yet been announced, but it will be in May and construction on the site is now underway. More details are set to be unveiled on social media in the coming weeks.

Previously speaking about what set The Coffee House apart from other cafes, a spokesperson for the business told Cheshire Live: "We pride ourselves on the customer service, we pride ourselves on having that local coffee shop feel.

"People when they come, they can work, they can meet their friends and family, but they have the service where the staff remember their name, remember what drinks they have. They're made to feel part of a community.

"People value that. They feel part of a community and we want to be part of that. There's so much great feedback we get about our customer service, about the products, about the coffee, about the place in general."

The Coffee House will be located in City Tower, New York Street, Manchester, M1 4BT. Follow on Instagram here.
