Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney has issued an update on her time on the cobbles after suffering a 'nightmare' around her recent birthday celebrations.

The actress is currently best known for playing Cassie Plummer in the ITV soap and after a brief break away from Weatherfield to mark her 54th birthday, Claire confirmed she was back filming at the Trafford-based set.

‌

Taking to Instagram, the soap star shared a beaming selfie from her dressing room and wrote to her fans and followers: "Good to be back at work @coronationstreet."

She also shared the soap photo to her Instagram Story and reiterated: "Lovely to be back at work today [red heart emoji]." But her time away hasn't all been plain sailing.

In a video alongside her post, Claire explained: "It's nice to be back here at Corrie today. Had a little bit of time off and went to Majorca over Easter to celebrate my birthday and unfortunately I was in chronic pain in my face."

She went on: "I had an abscess in my gum so that was a nightmare... Got home and got it seen to, root canal - three lots of roots apparently and the abscess sliced. It was horrendous and now I've got a big hole in my tooth and my gum which I'm having to wash out all the time.

‌

"Teeth, absolutely bloody nightmare aren't they. But nice to be back at work. At least it's stopping me eating too much. Every cloud..."

Claire's post was then quickly flooded with comments from fans. @emma_shrimps said; "Glad to see you back Claire." @the_saint1957 commented: "Looking great claire, sorry about your discomfort sounds painful.."

‌

@madscousewitch replied: "Gorgeous! I feel your pain! I have had couple if abscesses. Glad you're back on your metal Claire." @lorna0000 wrote: "You look beautiful and rested." @gilliangavaghan added: "Awww bless you Claire that must of been so painful, you are looking amazing."

Claire the Cobbles cast in 2023, taking on the role of Cassie, who later become a carer for Weatherfield stalwart Ken Barlow. In recent episodes, viewers have watched Cassie’s antics unfold as she gets caught lacing Ken’s drinks with antihistamines in an attempt to make him drowsy and reliant on her.

She also took it as an opportunity to steal from him by making expensive purchases using his credit card until eventually Ken found out and confronted her, before suffering a shock heart attack.

Discussing the moment, Claire commended her 93-year-old scene partner, calling his performance “award-winning”. Speaking about Bill, she said: "It’s an award-winning performance. It literally made me cry, he was so wonderful, so to do those scenes with Bill, who is a legend on screen, was just sensational.

"He did this very very dramatic scene and at the end, the crew, there was silence, and then he got a round of applause. I was bloody tearful, and I thought, ‘God, he is wonderful. I hope he gets recognised for this’. He is brilliant."
