A gang of teenagers reportedly surrounded two young victims in a park before carrying out an 'unprovoked' racist attack.

Greater Manchester Police says it is investigating reports of a racially aggravated assault in Vine Street Park, Abbey Hey.

The incident took place at 7pm last Monday, April 14. It is believed that the two male victims - aged 16 and 19 - were surrounded by around 11 youths.

The suspects are described as being white teenagers, dressed in dark clothing and riding bicycles and scooters.

GMP says the offenders assaulted the victims with a variety of items suspected to be pieces of wood, a broken bicycle and stones.

The victims suffered minor injuries. At this time no arrests have been made, and officers are now asking for the public’s assistance.

‌

PC Sean Hurst, of GMP, said: “This was a completely unprovoked racially aggravated assault on two innocent young members of the public.

"This type of behaviour is absolutely abhorrent and is not tolerated within Greater Manchester.

"I understand the concern that this will raise within the local and wider community, I can reassure residents that extensive enquiries are ongoing to identify those responsible.

‌

"If you saw anything suspicious on Vine Street Park at around 7pm, or anyone with any information, is encouraged to call 101 quoting log 2391 of April 15, 2025.

"Alternatively, you can remain anonymous by contacting our independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
