When it comes to ice cream, it doesn't come much fresher than at Milk Maids.

The ice cream parlour is at Deardens Farm, in Over Hulton, Bolton and makes ice cream from the award-winning milk from its own cows. The family-run business has been a huge success since it started making ice cream back in 2016.

‌

It relaunched last year with a new-look indoor seating area, which has attracted even more crowds and there's often a queue stretching out of the place down Manchester Road.

Inside the shop is a huge glass cabinet displaying a wide array of flavours, from Manchester tart and mint choc chip, to raspberry pavlova and Banella - a mixture of banana and Nutella.

You can customise your ice cream, with options including adding chocolate in your cone or adding various toppings such as fudge pieces.

There's much more than just ice cream on the menu though. The homemade waffles are a big seller, especially the Easter ones where you can add a mini cone filled with more melted chocolate to drizzle onto your waffle. And they do delicious milk buns - toasted brioche buns with a scoop of ice cream inside and drizzled with chocolate.

They also sell milkshakes and other hot and cold drinks and the fridges are stocked up with the farm's own Aryshire milk, tubs of ice cream to take home for your freezer and fresh eggs.

There are often pop-ups outside the place too, including a Carrs pasties van and pizzas from Cugini Pizza.

Parking can be busy so customers are asked to park further along Manchester Road and walk up to avoid blocking spaces for those living nearby. You might just need a little stroll to walk off all that ice cream.

Milk Maids opens daily 10am to 5pm, excluding Tuesdays.
