Greater Manchester railway station reopens after 10 WEEKS
Major works have been taking place
A Greater Manchester railway station has reopened to passengers - having been closed for more than 10 weeks.
Salford Central station closed its doors on Monday, February 10, for a major £10 million revamp to modernise the station.
Works have included a new ticket office, a new roof and one of the station's platforms being widened.
The station has now reopened to the public, with trains running from the station again this morning (April 23).
Further works will take place in the weeks ahead, with Transport for Greater Manchester previously announcing closures on Sunday, April 27, and Sunday, May 4.
A spokesperson for Northern wrote on X: "Salford Central is now open and trains are running from the station once again.
"Upgrades include: a new roof on the upper level of the station building; widening of platform two; a new ticket office; better signage; passenger information points.
"Work will continue at the station over the coming months, in partnership with Bee Network, to further improve accessibility to the station including new accessible toilets, a covered walkway to the lift on platform one and more inclusive passenger information displays, such as braille maps."
Mayor Andy Burnham previously said the work was part of a plan to create better links between bus and train travel across Greater Manchester.
Eight railway lines are set to join buses and trams in the Bee Network over the next few years.
"These improvements are a big step forward on our journey to bringing commuter rail lines into the Bee Network by 2028, helping connect more people to new opportunities and driving economic growth across the city-region," Mr Burnham said last December.
