Greater Manchester Walking Festival returns next month with more than 400 free walks
It will be ‘bigger than ever’ with organised walking groups taking you along scenic canals, through country parks and much more
Next month the GM Walking Festival returns and it’s set to be ‘bigger than ever' with more than 400 free, organised group walks in every borough of Greater Manchester. The festival coincides with National Walking Month which encourages people to explore new routes and get walking.
The free programme features organised group walks hosted by local organisations and community groups, designed to boost wellbeing and highlight walking routes on our doorstep.
There’s a range of walks available with a focus on inclusivity, with options available for those with a pram, wheelchair users and walkers who require mobility aids.
The free walks include dementia-friendly rambles and family-friendly nature trails. Walkers can come along with friends and family, or attend the groups alone and meet new people.
Louise Robbins, GM Moving’s Strategic Lead for Walking and Active Environments, said: “I’m delighted to see so many local groups from all parts of Greater Manchester coming together to make this year’s GM Walking Festival. With over 400 walks happening across May, there are countless opportunities to get moving in a way that works for you.
“Walking and wheeling are the most accessible ways to build activity into our daily lives and this festival celebrates exactly that. We hope it helps people build healthy, joyful habits that last well beyond May.”
Those wanting to join a walk can search for one nearby - or further afield - via the festival website, where they can filter routes based on location, distance, grade and facilities such as cafes and toilets.
