How to opt out of app pushes and notifications
Handy guide to opting out of iPhone, Android or web browser alerts from apps or websites
Here is a quick 'how to' guide on cancelling app pushes for web browsers and mobile phones.
The Manchester Evening News app is used below as an example.
More information about our free app and how to download it can be found here.
Via the M.E.N. app
If you have an app installed, it will likely have a settings page which will forward you to your notifications settings on your mobile. Here's a rough guide to how that works.
Most other mobile apps have a similar format, if you're unsure skip to step five which can be found in your phone settings.
- Click into 'My Profile'
- Scroll to User Options
- Select My Privacy
- Click on Settings on Push Notifications
- This will take you to your device's Notifications page
- You will be able to select apps and deselect their push notifications from here
Browser notifications
If you have opted in to notifications on your web browser (for example, Google Chrome) then stopping them is easy.
Here's a guide for Google Chrome:
- Click into Settings (top right hand corner)
- Select Advanced , and under 'Privacy and Security' select Site Settings
- Select Notifications
Having trouble finding it? The Settings menu allows you to just search for ‘notifications’ and it will show you where to click. Alternatively, copy this into your address bar and press enter: chrome://settings/content/notifications
In the Notifications menu, scroll down until you find www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk
Click on the three dots and select either ‘ Remove ’ or ‘ Block ’
