Iceland Foods have revealed a new £100m investment which the retailer claims will be a “game-changer” for both the supermarket’s supply chain and future growth.

Located at Omega Park in Warrington, the 500,00 square foot distribution centre will be the retailer’s largest warehouse to date, and will act as a hub for the distribution of products across Iceland stores.

‌

The site will begin supplying 350 Iceland stores across the north west of England, the Scottish borders and Wales, with the potential to expand its distribution to 500 stores nationwide at a later date.

The multi-million pound investment is the supermarket's latest step towards innovating growth through state-of-the-art technology to drive efficiency and ensure a resilient supply chain for Iceland shoppers.

Iceland’s new site also has incorporated sustainable initiatives with the site partly powered by solar panels to increase green energy consumption, Cheshire Live reports.

Tarsem Dhaliwal OBE, Chief Executive Officer at Iceland Foods said: “We’re always looking at ways to make our business stronger, more efficient, and better for our customers.

‌

"Investing in our supply chain is a huge part of that, and this new state-of-the-art warehouse is a game-changer.

“It gives us the capacity to grow, improve service, and futureproof our operations for years to come.”

Alongside having nationwide implications for the store's expansion, the retailer also revealed that the warehouse is intended to create 750 jobs for local people.

Mr Dhaliwal said: “Warrington means a lot to me personally, as the place where I grew up, and it gives me particular pleasure to have been able to make such a major investment here.”

“We’re proud to be employing more than 750 people and delivering real economic benefits to the local community.”

Local authorities have further secured investments into the areas transportation systems in light of the job opportunities presented by the new site and has initiated plans for two new bus services from the Warrington and St Helens regions into the site.

Gavin Williams, Managing Director, U.K. and Ireland, GXO added: "We're proud to be delivering the next phase of our logistics partnership with Iceland as we support their long-term ambitions with a warehouse that is fit for the future.

“The new Warrington regional distribution centre is great news for the local community and for our colleagues, who will help us assist Iceland’s growth plans across the country.”
