Two teenagers, aged 17 and 18, have been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a double stabbing on a Manchester road.

Police and paramedics were called to Stockport Road at around 12.30pm today (Friday, April 25).

A closure is currently in place on the road, at the junction with Kirkmanshulme Lane.

No arrests have been made at this stage and Greater Manchester Police has now launched an investigation into the incident.

A spokesperson said: "We know that news of an incident of this nature will be concerning, especially owing to the ages of those involved.

"Extensive work is ongoing to identify and locate suspects, and we are working with a range of specialist partners to ensure the victims are safeguarded.

"Additional patrols have been deployed to the area whilst we conduct further enquiries, and I would encourage anyone who has any information or concerns, to speak to our officers."

In a statement, GMP said:

At 12.30pm today (Friday 25 April) we were called to reports that two males had been stabbed on Stockport Road, Manchester.

Emergency services attended and two males, aged 17 and 18, were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

No arrests have been made at this stage and extensive enquiries are underway to establish the circumstances.

Road closures are in place along Stockport Road, including the junction of Kirkmanshulme Lane and the junction of Birch Lane. Delays are expected and we thank the public for their patience whilst the scene is in place.

Police are now appealing for witnesses, anyone with dashcam footage from the area, or anyone who may have crucial information which may assist with the progression of the investigation, to come forward.
