Now that spring is in full swing warmer and sunnier weather is upon us. Next week we can even look forward to plenty of sunshine, with highs of 22C expected in Greater Manchester, according to the latest forecasts from the Met Office.
It's during weather like that that parks and green spaces come into their own. Whether it's for a picnic with friends, a walk alone with the dog or a post-work stroll in the late afternoon sun, local parks are perfect to head to in the spring.
Luckily, Greater Manchester has no shortage of parks to visit, from beautiful Victorian-era parks to tiny greens hidden behind high streets.
In Rochdale you’ll find Denehurst Park, a beautiful space which combines formal features with more natural elements.
The formal garden has colourful flower beds that bloom with life in the summer while other areas of the park has gorgeous landscaped aspects, including winding paths and carved wooden sculptures.
There’s a wildflower area which provides a habitat for all manner of insects and a fruit orchard which gives the park a homely feel.
One of the park’s more intriguing features is the stumpery, a magical Victorian-style garden similar to a rockery but created with pieces of wood instead.
Denehurst Park has an impressive play area for kids which includes a zip-wire and climbing frame. There’s a dedicated area for toddlers and accessible features too.
The park was originally the gardens which belonged to Denehurst House, donated to the town in 1932 by Samuel Tuner in memory of his father Alderman Robert Turner.
It was named after Denehurst Farm, which previously occupied the site of the house.
The park has received dozens of five star reviews on Google. One visitor wrote:”Lovely park, friendly people, lots of space for dogs to run around” and another added: “Excellent children's play area, well kept park.”
