Thousands of runners and supporters will take to the streets of the city on Sunday for one of the most-anticipated events of the year.

The adidas Manchester Marathon is the UK's second largest marathon and one of Europe's most iconic.

‌

The annual race draws participants from all over the world to the vibrant streets of Greater Manchester, creating a brilliant atmosphere and raising large amounts of money for local and national charities.

Last year's event saw over 32,000 take part, bringing a fantastic £5.3 million boost to the local economy.

A record high 36,000 are expected to lace up their favourite pair of trainers for this year's 26.2 mile challenge, with all places selling out over five months ago.

On Sunday, the action kicks off at 9am on Chester Road - adjacent to Manchester United's Old Trafford stadium.

‌

With an event of this size taking place, several roads within the city will be affected, with road closures and traffic diversion plans in operation.
