Grey skies look set to dominate the Easter weekend, with plenty of rain in the forecast.

The Met Office is forecasting cloudy conditions and light rain throughout much of the bank holiday weekend in Greater Manchester.

‌

Rain is set to hit much of the UK on Good Friday (April 18), with a yellow weather warning is in place for heavy rain in parts of Devon and Cornwall from 6pm until 9am on Saturday.

Thankfully, Greater Manchester is expected to avoid the worst of the weather - but forecasters don't expect much sunshine in the days ahead.

Light rain is forecast to hit much of the region early on Good Friday morning before returning in the afternoon and evening.

Forecasters expect heavier rain to fall in Oldham, Salford and Wigan from around 3pm to 8pm, while heavy rain could stretch from Friday evening into Saturday morning across Bolton, Bury and Rochdale.

The Met Office expects light rain to continue falling until late on Saturday morning in most of the region, with heavier rain persisting in Bolton and Wigan until around 8am.

Those conditions should make way for dry but cloudy weather for the rest of the day in Greater Manchester, with overcast skies in some parts.

‌

Easter Sunday is currently forecast for the best of the weekend weather, with sunny intervals expected in the morning before a cloudy afternoon in Manchester, Oldham, Salford, Stockport and Tameside.

Bolton, Bury, Rochdale, Trafford and Wigan could see sunnier conditions continue until early Sunday evening, the Met Office says.

Forecasters say there is a less than 50 per cent of rain later on Sunday evening however, continuing through Monday morning.

Light rain is forecast again for the afternoon of Easter Monday - with more showery conditions forecast in Bolton, Stockport and Wigan - before a dry, cloudy night is expected heading into Tuesday.

Temperatures will be broadly in line with the average for April throughout the weekend, with highs of 14C in Greater Manchester on Friday, 13C on Saturday and 16C for both Sunday and Monday.

The weekend will see overnight lows between 5C and 8C.
