Shoppers despair as all make same complaint days after Easter
Shoppers have taken to social media to express their disappointment
As the Easter weekend comes to a close, many shoppers have shared a similar complaint after heading back to the supermarkets.
On Reddit, one disappointed shopper, @Lance_Legstrong, queried: “Is it me or have the Easter egg reductions been terrible and/or absent this year?
“Been in a few Tesco's of all sizes, M&S, and they had nothing reduced or they were in a cage ready to go out the back. Only place I saw them was a Sainsbury's local, but they had the mega ones & were still barely reduced.”
Since the post, other shoppers have flooded Reddit comments with similar experiences. @JustNeedToRantThankU replied: “I went to Tesco yesterday evening, just to buy some reduced price Easter eggs, and everything was still full price.”
Another shopper, @Remote-Pool7787, added: “I was in Tesco earlier. Loads left, whole packets. But not reduced.” A third, @Helpful-Mongoose-705, wrote: “Nothing in Hotel Chocolat or Marks and Spencer’s today. I miss the days of proper reductions.”
While shoppers have complained that stores such as Tesco and M&S have not reduced the price of their stocks, some have claimed to have been able to find discounted Easter eggs in other stores.
One shopper, @Ewan, said: “Lots half price in Sainsbury’s.” Another, @justdont7133, added: “Aldi had loads reduced today, but I don't think they were half price yet.”
Following the claims that Tesco had not reduced their Easter eggs earlier this week, the popular Facebook account NewFoodsUK on their page wrote: “Loads of Easter Eggs reduced at our local Tesco.”
NewFoodsUK posted numerous photos detailing the reduction they had seen in store. The post showed the 198g Cadbury Orange Flavoured Twirl Easter egg reduced from £3.50 to £2 alongside the 98g Cadbury White Buttons Easter egg, which had been reduced from £1.65 to 82p.
Other luxury Easter eggs had also been reduced, with the 250g Ferrero Rocher White Chocolate and Hazelnut Easter Egg reduced from £17.50 to £8.75, while the 360g Lindt Gold Bunny had been reduced from £20 to £10.
Yet many shoppers have again responded with criticism to Tesco’s discounts, suggesting that discounted prices were still too high.
On Facebook, one shopper, Kelly Macdonald, said: “Not really a discount though as far as I think. A couple of years back they were all like 40-50p to clear. My Tesco still had them at £3.50 yesterday.”
Another, Tasha Jane Green, wrote: “Hardly reduced or cheap.”
As the Easter weekend comes to an end, other shoppers have also complained about the quality and size of the chocolate eggs in stores this year.
Shopper, Jen MB, wrote: “The eggs were so much thinner this year.” To this, Lizzay Slaney, added: “I remember when you used to have to hit them again and again to get them to break. Now they nearly break as you take them out of the box.”
