M&S launches £8.50 Daddy of all treats, but not everyone's convinced

When M&S launches a new product it usually causes quite a stir.
Throw in the viral treat that is Dubai chocolate and its latest addition is getting more attention than ever.
When the retailer launched The Big Daddy last year - a chunky chocolate bar with caramel, peanut butter and roasted peanut pieces - it was hailed the UK equivalent of Dubai chocolate, which at the time was soaring in popularity.
Now M&S has decided to make a version that's even closer to that, with The Big Daddy Pistachio.
While it's not got the same ingredients as the viral chocolate - which is stuffed with a unique and luxurious filling including a sweet pistachio cream, tahini paste and kadayif - it's keeping with the pistachio craze.
A chunky chocolate bar with gooey sea salted caramel, a sweet biscuit crumb and a thick layer of rich and nutty pistachio crème, roasted pistachio pieces and white chocolate – it's billed as 'the perfect indulgent treat for those sweet n salty cravings', with a 280g slab costing £8.50.

But shoppers are divided over the new product, which has featured in numerous social media posts, attracting thousands of responses.
"Can't wait to try it, going for it tomorrow mmmmm," said one shopper. With another adding: "Now this is a chocolate bar I would be interested in. Pistachio."
But others said: "It's a pistachio flapjack, let's not dress it up as anything else," and "£8.50 for a bar of chocolate?? Jumping on the Dubai bandwagon of inflated prices for a chocolate bar."
Describing it as 'the chunky chocolate bar of dreams', an M&S spokesperson said: "After nine months of our experts carefully creating the perfect recipe, we have taken all the layers that you love about the OG, including M&S's thick, signature creamy milk chocolate and gooey sweet and salty caramel, marrying them with a light and crunchy, subtly sweet fine biscuit crumb and the ultimate chunky, nutty pistachio layer made with real roasted pistachios, pistachio crème and white chocolate.
"With ‘Dubai chocolate’ being the number one trending hashtag for food and drink in the UK on TikTok and ‘pistachio’ mentions on social media increasing by 80% in the confectionery category compared to last year, it comes as no surprise that this pistachio takeover has made its way into our Foodhalls.
"First we gave you the Pistachio Latte, then came the Pistachio Crème, and now it’s time for the nutty sister to the iconic OG Big Daddy."
