Starbucks sparks frenzy with new tiramisu drinks but there's one big problem
Starbucks has launched brand new and returning items to its menu recently – with prices up to £5.40. However, the options have divided fans of the coffee giant
Starbucks has recently revamped its menu – just in time for the summer season. The coffee giant, which has been operating since the '70s, introduced a new range of dessert-inspired drinks yesterday (April 24). Drawing inspiration from the classic Italian dessert, Starbucks is introducing three new Tiramisu-inspired drinks to its menu.
The company aims to bring "bringing an innovative twist" to a trending summer classic. New additions include the Tiramisu Cream Iced Latte, Tiramisu Cream Iced Oat Shaken Espresso and Tiramisu Frappuccino blended beverage. From May 1, customers will also have the opportunity to try two new Starbucks Refresha drinks, perfect for a refreshing summer sip.
Plus, following its success in the US, the Melon Pearl Starbucks Refresha drink is making its way to the UK menu. For those seeking a more tropical flavour, the Frozen Mango Dragonfruit Starbucks Refresha drink, blended with ice, promises to be the ideal frozen treat to cool off and unwind in the summer sun.
New food is on its way too. Plant-based lunch items – like the Mexican Style Three Bean Wrap – and fan-favourite baked goods – such as the Boston Cream Muffin and Raspberry and Coconut Loaf Cake – will be available soon.
News of the revamped menu spread rapidly after being posted on the popular food Instagram account, New Foods UK. The page @newfoodsuk excitedly shared: "Wow! New drinks spotted on the @starbucksuk app this morning!".
Reacting to the announcement, one follower exclaimed, "Omg," brimming with anticipation. "Need those oat shaken ones," another voiced their preference, while a different user seemed eager for a social outing, suggesting, "Coffee date soon? ," as they tagged a friend.
Someone else chimed in expressing their interest: "The melon pearl Refresha looks yummy!".
However, not all feedback was full of enthusiasm as people spotted one big problem. The prices!
Rewards members can access the menu now, while non-reward members will be able to enjoy the new offerings from May 1. Prices vary from £2.90 to £5.40.
Spending over a fiver on a coffee understandably sounds very steep to some. One commenter was incredulous, remarking: "£5.45 each".
Meanwhile, others worried about how healthy the drinks are. One said: "I'm a little disappointed that the Tiramisu Oat Shaken is four times the calories of the normal one."
Agreeing with the sentiment, another commenter suggested that seeing calorie counts alongside these options would deter them: "Put calories next to these images and that's it... it's a NO GO".
