UK tourists visiting Canary Islands issued wind warning as gusts reach 70kmh
Brits visiting the Canary Islands over Easter weekend have been warned of strong winds on the coast
Parts of the Canary Islands including Gran Canaria, Tenerife and La Gomera have been issued a yellow severe weather warning for wind as gusts could reach 70kmh.
In addition to the warnings across the Canary Islands, there are some yellow wind warnings in place in parts of mainland Spain including A Coruña and Almería.
Spanish weather agency AEMET (State Meteorological Agency) has issued yellow warnings for wind for most of the day on Easter Sunday, April 20, along the coast of Tenerife and covering large parts of Gran Canaria.
Across all the warnings in the Canary Islands, the wind gusts are set to reach 70kmh in a north easterly direction with a warning that the winds will particularly affect peaks, southern mid-mountains, and northwest and east slopes. From Monday, April 21, no severe weather warnings remain in place across the Canary Islands
Despite the wind, weather is expected to be mixed across the Canary Islands today. Tenerife is set to be 23C and sunny for large parts of the day, whereas Gran Canaria is a mild 21C with clouds for most of the day.
By the end of next week, temperatures are really heating up and will reach 27C in Tenerife by Sunday, April 27, and reaching 26C in Gran Canaria.
Similarly to the warnings in the Canary Islands, the warnings in mainland Spain are only in place today, April 20, and by Monday they are all lifted. Westerly and north westerly winds could reach 70kmh in parts of Spain including A Coruña and Almería.
Coastal warnings are also in place in Spain in parts of Granada, A Coruña and Almería, where waves could reach 3 metres high and sea levels could rise by 5 metres. In Granada today, the weather is set to be cloudy and rainy reaching highs of 14C.
