A ‘well-loved’ local pub in Wigan which is located near a beautiful nature reserve is to receive a huge renovation.

The Talbot pub, in Atherton, is currently undergoing a huge £350k revamp which will see it closed for three--and-a-half weeks as it has a new family lounge fitted, alongside 4k screens and a new menu.

‌

The Gadbury Fold venue is situated not far from the Pennington Flash Country Park and nature reserve, which boasts scenic views and is home to a number of nationally-significant wildlife, including the willow tit, which is the UK’s most endangered small bird.

The country park is also a popular spot for dog walkers and hikers, and also has an adventure playground for families. It was designated a National Nature Reserve (NNR) by Natural England over two years ago.

A 12-minute drive away from the country park, The Talbot will reopen on May 8 with its new look - with owners having invested over £351,955 into updating the premises. The two-door pub, operated by Marston’s, will continue screen live sports with the addition of TNT channels and new 4K big screens.

The pub’s two distinct areas are made up of a vibrant locals’ bar and a family lounge which are separated by a central partition allowing people to choose the area that feels right to them.

When it reopens, it will boast a range of special offers, including three bottles of selected beers for £10.75 every day, or a pizza and a drink for £12.50 all day on a Monday.

Many of its menu classics, like Chicken Wings, Chicken Tikka Masala and The Ultimate Spicy Beef Burger, will continue to be served at the pub, alongside some new additions.

General Manager, Jonathan Brooke said: “The refurbishment will create the ideal setting for our community to come together and enjoy delicious food, drinks, and great company, regardless of the occasion.

“We’re excited to welcome everyone back and showcase the fantastic changes we will have made. The Talbot will be the perfect spot to spend time with those closest to you whether you are looking to enjoy the sun out in the beer garden, or make the most of the live entertainment or sports.”
